Acrobat product interoperability, Was: Acrobat Reader CE version 6

No, it will not "ruin" you system such that you will need to reformat your hard drive, but you would likely experience some unexpected behaviour from one or the other components until ALL have been totally uninstalled! >> Dov, two points: 1. The fact that, starting with version 6 and how a search index is created, compared to previous versions causes a real dilemma. Users with the full version of, say, Acrobat 5.0.5 installed, can not read search indexes created with versions 6 or 7. If I create a CD, and have a license to distribute Reader with it, I can only distribute the most current version. So that is what I have to use to catalog the PDFs on the CD, version 6 or 7. The CD is received and the only way the user can use search is to install version 6 or 7 Reader. They don't want to pay to upgrade the full version at this time, so they have to install a more current version of Reader, yet you say Adobe strongly recommends against that. If I want users with earlier versions of Acrobat to be able to use my CDs then I must include an index created with Acrobat 5 or earlier. If I want users with current versions (6 or 7 in this case) to use my CDs, I have to include and index created with version 6 or later. This doesn't even get into the cross-platform issue between OSX and OS9 platforms. Yes, I could put two indexes on the CD and explain how users can attach one or the other each time they want to use the CD, but that's about it. Its not possible to have them run Reader from the CD so what is a creator of CDs supposed to do so users can take advantage of all of the Reader functions no matter what is installed on their system?
This has been a sore spot with me since I expected that basic functions such a linking, searching across multiple documents, etc. would be maintained across all versions. I've gotten used to this and tell users they must use version 6 or 7 to use my CDs. But it still leaves the issue users experience.
2. The Acrobat support knowledgebase, Document 326272 discusses coexisting installations and version interoperability. It mentions what you said in the coexisting installion section but it appears to be referring more to installing the full Acrobat version 7. I say that because below that, in the version interoperability section, is a table that says it is OK (Allow is actually what it says) to install Adobe Reader 7 without removing the installed full version of Acrobat 5.x and both versions will function.
I may be reading something into this but it looks to me like this is my only viable soultion: To include version 7 on my CDs and ask users to install it so they can search. If I'm missing something here please clarify it.
Thanks for all you help on this and other forums.

Point 2 tell me it is OK to do what I am
