>>I just want to know how one may browse into a PDF >>to a named > destination therein, like >>http://www.somewhere.com/testfile.pdf#tagChapter2 >>> -under *UNIX* (SunSolaris 2.5.1), that is. >I wanted to look up your page form my Mac. I got only the >following error message: Error 404 - No page or file is available. Sorry, the URL given was only a fictious example. But summarising the feedback I got from the net (tnx to all), it does work now: The plugin is named nppdf.so on Solaris and is located in the /opt/Acrobat3/Browsers/sparcsolaris/ directory. One has to put a symbolic link to that file in the .../Netscape/plugins/ -directory, make sure that the environment variable NPX_PLUGIN_PATH exists & points to that directory (or start the "netscape" script in the Acrobat3-directory instead of invoking Netscape directly), create a new MIME-entry for application/pdf in Netscape's Edit/Preferences/Navigator/Applications section and enable the plugin for that file type. If all went well, Netscape will answer on "about:plugins" with a screen indicating that the plugin is up and running. Now browsing of PDFs as indicated does work: In a seamless window of the Navigator and to whatever named destination therein you select, by directly entering the "PDF-URL" as stated. (Note that this would *technically* work on local PDF-files as well as for PDFs on the Internet/intranet, but you may not use it, as it is against Adobe's *license policies* for the Acrobat Reader, AFAIK. -Strange, ain't it?)
