Since joining this list several months ago, I noticed that there are some very sharp, technically astute, participants. On the other hand, there are some beginners who are looking to understand what this PDF rage is all about. Many beginners need to better understand it so they can convince their non-technical managers that PDF is a good business decision.
Given this, Alliant Techsystems has dusted off a training course that was previously provided to over 100 customer personnel as an introduction to the PDF "business". This 32 hour course is a combination of classroom lecture and hands-on in the lab. The course outline is as follows:
1. What is PDF/IPDF? 2. Using Capture to scan paper and output editable files (.acd) 3. Using Reviewer to edit .acd files and output PDF 4. Using Distiller to convert postscript files to PDF 5. Using Exchange to create links and bookmarks 6. Basic InfoLinker rule writing for creating automated links and bookmarks
Alliant Techsystems is offering this course/seminar at our Clearwater facility the week of December 2, 1996 (noon Monday through noon Friday). This course will provide newcomers with an understanding of the total process. Our experience with previous attendees was that they gained a much better understanding of the process and how it impacted and benefited their "business". They were then equipped with the knowledge needed to make decisions related to utilization of PDFs in their organization.
We will be following up this course with our bi-monthly (every 2 months, not twice a month) "Advanced Rule Writing" course the week of December 9th. This course is also 32 hours, and is for those that will be involved in automatically linking documents utilizing our InfoLinker product.
Space is limited for both these courses. Please contact the undersigned or our Training Manager Sue Hofacker at (800)435-7102 or atk_ais@atk.com to reserve your seat/PC. (Any member of the list, or associates, who signs up for the 2 courses between now and November 15th will be offered a 15% discount just by mentioning you heard it here.)

Hi,
Is there any training available for people who want to learn how to use the Acrobat suite of products more effectively? I'm talking about Capture, Reviewer and Exchange at least.
I'm interested in classes offered just as a course, or as part of any shows or conferences. (I also am interested in finding out about conferences that deal with the work done by people like those on this list.)
If there's nothing now, is it likely classes will be offered when new versions of the products are released?
We are in Michigan, an hour from Detroit, so any Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland, Columbus, etc. area classes would be great.
FYI, I work at a place that produces and maintains document and data archives on a wide variety of social science subjects. We're mostly converting paper documents to PDF. We create hundreds of pages a week and plan to do more soon.
