I don't know who "everyone else" is, but I can assure you that anyone who understands the way that ID and PDF work will agree with me.
InDesign can represent a LOT richer graphical information (Device-N colors, spot-colored rasters, transparency) than Postscript can fully handle NOT TO MENTION support for non-printing elements (metadata, hyperlinks, etc.). These things will be fully & correctly incorporated into the final PDF - IF you use the "Save as PDF" command in ID, but NOT if you go via PS & Distiller.
