Sorry, but I've got to ask if there's any particular reason why you don't use the "Export ..." command to save directly to PDF? Admittedly my version of FH (v8.01) only allows you to save in Acrobat 3 format, but is there some reason why this is not acceptable to you?
Also, as a side note, version 9 of FreeHand is due out next month according to Macromedia. I'd expect the new version to save directly to Acrobat 4.
I'm afraid I'm not really an AppleScript programmer, so I don't really know whether FreeHand is AppleScriptable or not, but even if it isn't you still might have some luck with OneClick or QuickKeys perhaps?
