I'm not sure where you are getting your information. The readme that comes with the PDF 1.3 beta filter clearly states on page 15 that the *import* filter is *not* compatible with Acrobat 4.
Maybe your positive experience is in the exporting function, but I have tested the import function with Acrobat 4.x-compatible documents, and it doesn't work. Quark representatives confirmed this with me at Seybold, and said the problem would be fixed with the final release.
