Peter et al:
Not sure I understand the desire to use Distiller Assistant. It seems to me to be a "watchdog" app that determines when Distiller is needed. Not much else?
Since you are on a network, how about this one:
Set up a machine with the Distiller loaded and running all the time. The machine doesn't need to be a file server, just to have drive mappings to the watched directories. Make the watched directory a network directory (or directories) and direct the users to print PostScript files to the watched directory.
Distiller will then work in the "background", distilling files as they are printed. No need for Distiller Assistant; ergo, no need to write files to the local hard drives.
I have used a variation on this theme to work with NT 3.51 (where Distiller Assistant doesn't work real well?).
It seems to me that the nice people at the Adobe office in NY had a similar system for creating and posting documents to their web site. I think they defined a specific printer as a PostScript print driver directed to a watched directory.

Tom

We've looked at other approaches that avoid DistAsst, but prefer to use it if possible.
