You could still use Full text indexing by doing the following:
after opening the selected document, view the Document Info and select the title (or subject) copy it (Ctrl+C), then, paste it in you seach panel (same field) and launch a "refined search" (keep the Ctrl key down, the button changes from "search" to "refine". That limits the search only to those documents that satisfy the Document Info criteria. It is fairly fast and aloows for more sophisticated queries than the simple find.
