You have to configure the browser's helper applications to recognize .pdf as belonging to the Acrobat application. Also, if you trying to have this .pdf served from a Web server rather than read directly from disk, you will have to ensure that the server MIME types are configured to recognize .pdf (application/pdf pdf).
