Dear Heidi,
The best information that I have been able to get says that the Print Spooler, if used, writes its data to the Windows Swap Space.
Windows Swap Space (Virtual Memory) Defaults:
The Windows Swap Space size is dynamically set by Win '95/NT (it will expand & contract as needed - if there is enough blank space in the partition that holds your Windows program.
These defaults may be changed by selecting: 1. Start Menu. 2. Control Panel. 3. System. 4. Performance. 5. Virtual memory. >From here you can let Windows manage your Swap Space (Virtual memory), or you can take control - - (see detaails that I sent to other members in this News Group).
Window Print Spooler defaults:
Win'95 default settings are for the Print Spooler to be on and the program to start printing as soon as the first page is "spooled", with the remaining pages to go to the spooler.
These defaults may be changed by selecting: 1. Start Menu. 2. Control Panel. 3. System. 4. Printers 5. Select the appropriate Printer (you can have any nymber of Printers [drivers] installed). 6. When the selected Printer screen comes up, select Printer from the upper left corner. 7. Select properties 8. Select Details 9. Select Spool Settings 10. The first main option is to use the Spooler, the second main option is to print directly to the Printer - take your choice.
After further testing, I found that on my machine it makes no difference
which way I set the spooler for printing PDF files (or anything elese for that matter). I believe the reason is that I have 32MB of RAM, a 2GB hard drive with lots of emty space. Further, I use my system of Startup & Startup Manually folders, which allows me to boot my system in
a "clean, virginal state" - (see detaails that I sent to other members in this News Group).
I hope this all helps, please let my know how it goes. Best of luck.
