FrameMaker extracts text for Acrobat bookmarks as it was actually typed. However, you can type it in upper and lower case (as you want it to appear in the bookmarks), yet force it to all appear as all caps in your document, using the uppercase/lowercase setting in the Character Designer and/or the Paragraph Designer Default Font page. This way, bookmarks can be all caps, or initial caps, regardless of the visual case of actual document headings.
Follow these steps:
#1. Change the case of all heading paragraphs to upper and lower case (initial capitals), the way you would like them to appear in the bookmark window. [Use the Change Case icons on the QuickAccess bar or keyboard shortcuts].
#2. Click a heading paragraph, open the Paragraph Designer and switch to the Default Font page. Change the case setting to Uppercase and click Update All. The heading paragraphs in the document are now all in uppercase.
#3. Repeat step 2 for all heading paragraphs (you can also use the global update option to change this setting for a group of different tags in one step).
#4. Create a PDF file and inspect the results. Bookmarks from headings paragraphs are in upper and lower case, as they are actually typed in the document. The headings are forced to be all uppercase.
Note: As Acrobat’s bookmarks allow no special character formatting ), it is sometimes necessary to achieve the opposite effect, and have some high-level bookmarks as all-caps in order to emphasize them (while the headings themselves are upper and lower case). The above procedure can be used to achieve this equally well.
