Re: Reletive URL Links ("solution" FYI)
A week or so ago I posted a request for advice with creating relative URL links to html files on a local hard disk (not via a web server) from PDF files. I wanted to have the flexibility to move these files into any directory or drive--without re-eding in Exchange--and still have Reader find them. Thanks for your responses, although none gave me the solution I was looking for.
Anyway, I found a solution myself. FYI, here it is... (oh, this is for Windows 3.x and Acrobat Reader beta 3.x)
1. make sure the Base URL field is blank (otherwise, Reader will want to look there)
2. In the Weblink Edit URL field, type the file URL as follows: file:///filename.htm
(Note the 3 slashes. Those of you saying "duh!," where were you before ;-))
As long as the html and PDF files stay in the same directory, the html files will be found--like a relative URL via an html browser).
I haven't tested this to see if it'll work for *true* http:// URL addresses. David Gildea Pacific Bell Education & Training drgilde@pacbell.com 510-823-7385
