I don't know if this helps but here ya go... We use currently Capture but prior to that I did investigate other avenues. I am unclear in your description of a tool you have that reads tiff/group 4 files but does not convert to Postscript. Postscript is not necessarily a "conversion" as in a "save as". If you can read a tiff/group 4 file simply print it to a Postscript file and hand it to distiller. Any computer can print to a PS file if you are unclear on how to do this let me know it is simple. Keep in mind the big thing you are loosing by not using Capture is full text searching if that is an issue it was for us. As for automating the process if you know VB or VC and have access the API's for your viewing software you could write an OLE app that prints to a PS file then moves it to a watched dir for Distiller for processing.
