AFAIK, it is possible to create "stand-alone" flash animations on both plat-forms (Mac/PC).

Alas, this cannot be an option as the design of the pdf document requires to include INTO the surrounding PDF page the animation (for instance with a Quicktime movie, specify "no control bar, and "play automatically for ever" when placing the movie into the page with Acrobat Exchange. Secondly, the aim is to build a CD (no html-based "local site" possible) with the selfcontained PDF files, and installers for Reader, and that's it ;-(.
